moon(cakes) from previous days

Mid-Autumn Festival / Lantern Festival / Mooncake Festival is here & so is mooncake (月饼 - yuè bĭng) making. *grins*
Made mini baked mooncakes & mini snowskin mooncakes with J's mum over at their place. They have a built in oven, & that's way out of my little oven's league.

1kg of red bean paste with 4 different kinds of nuts/seeds; pumpkin, sunflower, almonds, and  I can't remember. haha

lotus and red bean fillings rolled into 25-26 gram balls..

(left) mixture for the baked mooncake skin, was out of sugar syrup so J's mum used golden syrup & molasses.
(right) making ice cream soda snowskin while the dough for baked mooncake skin is setting; at least 30mins.

viola ! pretty snowskin mooncakes ! O(≧▽≦)O

(left) red bean filling made by Jer & I, except for the one little impostor.. =X
(right) lotus filling made by J's mum.

(top) whole tray of lovelies !
(bottom) my novice skills are totally visible seeing as how I can see the filling through the skin.. meh ~

brushing an egg mixture on, halfway through baking for the nice shine mooncakes have.
*Note! any sudden  movements/impact can disturb the filling inside & cause the mooncake to sink or look squashed, producing cracks and all..

pretty in baked ~ =]

that's all for the photos, cause these treats were made 2 weeks back & they're all gone now! this year, I have a new found love for homemade snowskin mooncakes. To be precise, Aunty Arlene's (J's mum) snowskin mooncakes. I never ever liked snowskin mooncakes, but now that I do.. I'm going to make sure everyone tries the ice cream soda snowskin mooncake! Probably the only snowskin mooncake I will ever eat. *grins*

no room for lanterns this year..
